The Young Ambassadors for the Environment had the honor of participating in the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC), a major global event for the protection of the oceans, hosted for the first time in France, in Nice.
Over several days, we attended plenary sessions and numerous side events in the blue zone, including the Ocean Rise & Coastal Resilience Coalition Summit, bringing together experts, decision-makers and stakeholders committed to concrete solutions to address sea level rise and coastal preservation.
We also took part in the civic dynamics of La Baleine, at the Palais des Expositions, a space where many important community events took place. Among them:
The World Island Forum
The Women Actions For The Ocean event
And our own workshop: “The Mural of New Narratives: Reimagining the Future of Our Oceans”
This workshop, designed and led by two JAE, Aliénor Coudray and Lucie Serizier, took place in Atoll 3 of La Baleine on June 9 and 10, and welcomed a diverse and enthusiastic audience.
In 25-minute sessions, we invited participants to reflect on the impact of dominant narratives on our ability to imagine a desirable future for the oceans, in light of planetary boundaries. It was a powerful moment of exchange, creativity, and awareness-raising, fueled by active optimism.
We are proud to have been able to represent young people committed to the climate and the oceans, and to have contributed to this international mobilization.
We hope that this edition of the UNOC will lead to concrete commitments and ambitious actions, commensurate with current ecological challenges.
A big thank you to all those who work, every day, for a living, resilient and healthy ocean. 🌐🌱
